Suboxone opioid addition drug lawsuits have been reviewed by the United States Judicial Panel on Multi-district Litigation (JPML). Upon due consideration, the JPML selected the Northern District of Ohio (NDOH) as the venue in which the federal government will hear Suboxone tooth decay claims.
The Northern District of Ohio is part of the 6th Circuit of the U.S. court system, and appeals are heard by the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
This consolidation of at least 15 initial Suboxone lawsuits was done pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1407. Newly filed cases are expected to likewise be transferred to the NDOH.

Judge J. Philip Calabrese Presides Over Suboxone Film Tooth Decay Litigation
Northern District of Ohio Judge J. Philip Calabrese has been selected by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multi-district Litigation to oversee Suboxone Film lawsuits nationwide.
Judge J. Philip Calabrese attended John Carroll University for his undergraduate studies, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He later eared his juris doctor degree at Harvard Law School.
The future jurist began his career as a law clerk for Judge Alice M. Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Following his clerkship, Judge Calabrese entered private practice, specializing in complex civil litigation. His areas of expertise included commercial disputes, regulatory compliance, and white-collar defense. Throughout his time in private practice, Judge Calabrese earned a reputation for his meticulous preparation, persuasive advocacy, and ethical conduct.
In addition to his practice, Judge Calabrese contributed to the legal community through his involvement in bar associations and legal education. He frequently spoke at continuing legal education seminars and authored articles on various legal topics, demonstrating his commitment to the advancement of legal knowledge and practice.
Judge Calabrese’s judicial career began with his nomination by President Trump in 2019.
